Creating and Managing Custom Report Templates

Custom Report Templates let you build exactly the report your organization needs. They are perfect when standard reports are close but you want to add, remove, or rearrange sections — or combine high-level summaries with detailed audit data in a single portable file.

When to use Custom Report Templates

  • You need a report tailored to a specific stakeholder (HR, executive team, department manager, etc.)
  • You want to mix summary data (Top App/Sites by Sessions, trend charts) with audit-level detail in one document
  • The report will be scheduled and emailed automatically — recipients open a PDF or HTML file with no login required (optional password protection is available when interactive drill-down is enabled)

Workflow – build a template in four easy steps

  • Go to Reports → Custom Report Templates → Manage Templates and click Add Template
  • Give the template a name and description
  • Add sections (pre-built or custom) using click-and-drag from the library
  • Re-order or configure the sections, then Save

Types of sections you can add

  • Top sections – ranked lists (e.g., Top Users by Sessions, Top Categories by Session Duration, Top App/Sites by Bytes)
  • Trend sections – line or bar charts over time
  • Group/User sections – summary data for specific groups or individuals
  • Audit sections – full URL-level detail with timestamps, bytes, acceptability, etc.
  • Text/Custom sections – add your own headers, notes, or policy statements

Running and scheduling the report

  • Run manually from Reports → Custom Report Templates → Run Report
  • Or schedule from Administration → Scheduling – choose daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
  • Reports are delivered as PDF or interactive HTML
  • Recipients receive the file by email; no login needed (unless you enable the optional interactive drill-down feature, which can be password-protected)

Custom Report Templates give you complete control while still using the same accurate Sessions-based metrics that appear in the Visualizer and Standard Reports. Once a template is built, anyone with access can run or schedule it — making distribution fast and consistent.
